Die Prinzessin

Prinzeßchen saß hoch in der Jungfernbastei,
Ein Bürschlein ging unten und blies die Schalmei.
»Du Kleiner, was bläst du am Abend? – sei still!
Das hält meine Seele, die fortfliegen will
Mit der Sonne dort.«

Das Bürschlein blies länger nicht auf der Schalmei.
»Du Kleiner, so blase, was schweigst du denn still?
Das trägt meine Seele, die fortfliegen will
Mit der Sonne dort.«

Prinzeßchen saß hoch in der Jungfernbastei,
Das Bürschlein nun wiederum blies die Schalmei.
Sie weint in den Abend und seufzet vor Qual:
